Definition of elastic yarn

From a textile perspective, the elasticity of elastic fibers is related to their unique molecular structure. They can elongate several times their original length and recover quickly after stretching. Generally, elasticity refers to synthetic fibers with high elongation at break, near 100% elastic recovery, and very low initial modulus.

Classification of Elastic Fibers

Based on differences in elasticity mechanisms, elastic fibers can be classified into intrinsically elastic fibers with interlocking soft and hard segments, such as spandex, rubber yarns, and thermoplastic polyester elastomers; and morphologically elastic fibers, such as bicomponent composite fibers with a crimped structure obtained through subsequent mechanical processing or due to differences in their own shrinkage properties.

Based on the degree of elasticity, they can be further classified into high-elasticity fibers (elastic elongation 400%~800%), medium-elasticity fibers (elastic elongation 150%~390%), low-elasticity fibers (elastic elongation 20%~150%), and low-elasticity fibers (elastic elongation less than 20%).
